HELME FAMILY BURIAL STONES

BREVIS A NATURA NOBIS VITA DATA EST AT MEMORIA BENE REDDITAEL VITAE SEMPITERNA

"A short life has been given to us by nature but the memory of a life well given up (is) eternal."

The following burial stones and their inscriptions are found in the Seaview Cemetery in Mount Sinai, NY. Many of the Helme Family interments did not take place at this location but were buried only a short distance from the Helme property on Miller Woods Drive. In the late 1890's there was a controversy over the use of the land and most of the burial stones were removed. Today there is only a small piece of wooded property left as a reminder of the former cemetery for the Miller and Helme families but the remains of these early families are still interred on the original site. To-date I have been unable to locate the burial stone of Thomas Helme III.
